I keep talking to her "everything will be okay. don't worry, just stay alive, okay. everything will be better." I grab two towels and use them to tie the toilet paper to her writs. then I run out of the bathroom, grab a phone and run back inside "it's okay, help will be here soon." I dial the number, tell my name and address and that my girlfriend cut her wrists. I activate the speakers so I can talk with them with my hands free. I hold Rene's hands high in the air with one hand and stroke her cheek with the other hand while I talk.

I wrap another towel around his hands to keep them warm. "just hang in there. the ambulance will be here any minute. then everything will be better. just a few more minutes."

The ambulance arrives. two paramedics come and carry Rene to the ambulance. I grab a book, key, wallet and lock the door behind me. I follow them and take a seat next to Rene in the ambulance where they start treating her. ~don't die. please don't die. not you. not the only one who did nothing wrong~

they give her the kind of treatment that someone would usually get in her condition. we arrive at the hospital where Rene is brought to the emergency room. I follow her. "everything will be okay. just hang in there."

Rene: After he is treated, he is alive, but sleeping and hooked up to all kinds of machines and monitors.

I sit on the edge of the bed and read the book for her. it's a book without much conflicts or drama, just a description of a wonderful peaceful world where the protagonists pick flowers and sing songs and never something bad happens.
"'watch out' Isabel said and Peter stopped. his foot hovers in mid air and he looks down. he would have nearly stomped on a snail. he grins at Isabel 'thank you!' Isabel always saw everything. she was the one with the sharpest eyes in the group, even tough or maybe because she wears glasses."

I read anyway, the entire book. "Jamie and Kim set on the meadow and watched the sunset. their hand touched and both smiled. 'this is the beginning of something wonderful' Jamie said and Kim agreed with a nod. And both were right. but that's another story and shall be told another time." I close the book and kiss Rene's forehead. "you will be better soon." I open the book on page five and start reading again.

during the time she slept I got permission to hold her hands and so I am currently holding her hand. I feel it twitching. I often felt it twitching and always looked at her to see she is still asleep. but this time I look into her open eyes. I am too astonished to believe it "...Rene?"
